About Us

Our nonprofit has a small board comprised of people who live to make a difference in the lives of neurodivergent children and adults. We also hire certified special education teachers or occasionally general education teachers and tutors with extensive experience with special needs.

Laura Johnson

CEO/President

Laura Johnson is a passionate advocate for students with diverse learning needs, bringing over two decades of dedicated experience in special education. 

Holding an Education Specialist (Ed.S) degree in Education, Laura has independently provided highly specialized special education tutoring, consistently achieving significant academic gains and fostering increased confidence in hundreds of students. 

Laura’s deep understanding of learning disabilities and effective instructional strategies forms the foundation of Exceptional Haven’s mission to empower every student.

Glen Johnson

CFO/VP

Glen Johnson is a software engineer with a passion for serving those with learning disabilities and the mentally ill. He has worked intensively with several nonprofits and served on several boards. He is married to Laura Johnson and they live in Palm Bay, Florida.

Jo Godwin

VP

Jo Godwin is the founder and prior director of Dairy Road Discovery Center in Melbourne, Florida.

Karreecha Newby

Secretary

Karreecha Newby is a mental health advocate, author, and entrepreneur. She is the owner of ServeWellFL, a company focused on mental well-being and resilience. She is also the author of “This Mind,” a book about overcoming trauma and finding healing.

Pastor PJ Lopez

Chaplain

Pastor PJ Lopez is the children’s pastor at Discover Life Church in Melbourne, Florida.

We hire mainly certified special education teachers or occasionally general education teachers or tutors with extensive experience with special needs, who have passed a background check. Our tutoring is offered as evidence-based and high dosage, making high impact tutoring a possibility.
